The Sunderland International Festival took place in July 2001. What a festival ! We camped for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of being with fellow fliers over the two days. It was great to join the crew from Flying Circus for a beer or two on the Saturday night. There’s a massive range of displays going on through the event (and that’s just on the kiting side). As this was our first “international” it was a real eye opener to see so many people from so many parts of the globe. The highlight of the festival for me was the display by the Flying Squad. Their display with Rev’s to the music of the Frog Chorus made me rush down to the traders’ stands and purchase a Rev for myself. More highlights included Ray Bethall doing his multi-kite routine and a mass launch of dragon kites.
