The 30th Portsmouth International Kite Festival arranged by Jon and Gill Bloom was held on 30th and 31st July 2022 on Southsea Common. This year it was a real last minute hotel booking followed by a very early Saturday 4:30am alarm call ahead of our journey from Leeds down to the South Coast getting there just after 10am.
Another difference for us for this festival was not taking a single inflatable kite with us. Our intention was to spend time in the stick/artistic kites arena. This was a great success as it made it such a relaxed weekend for us and we were able to fly some of the kites that we don’t often get out of our kitebag. It also allowed us to help other fliers to put on a show in the main arena as well as us being able to mingle with the other fliers more including many of the international guests that we haven’t seen since before the Covid pandemic. It was also nice to turn some virtual Facebook friends into newly met real friends.
Hopefully the video and images we were able to take around all three arenas give a great sense of the whole festival. We can see us doing more events like this and will certainly return to Portsmouth in future years.
