Dieppe 2025-09-14

We hadn’t made it to Dieppe before because it always clashed with term time for Sarah. But this year, we were determined to go. Once we got accepted as flyers, the only thing left was to get our new passports sorted. It was touch and go, but they arrived just in time, and we caught the ferry on Friday, right into the harbour across from the kite field.

We only planned to stay until Monday, but the weather messed up the ferry service. Instead of heading back early, we were having such a good time at the festival that we booked a hotel for an extra night and returned on Tuesday.

The atmosphere was brilliant — super friendly and really well organised. It was amazing to be able to meet new friends and catch up with old ones, some of who we hadn’t seen in over ten years. Someone said Berck is for the public, but Dieppe’s really for the kite flyers as well — and wow, the kites were incredible. The asymmetrical ones alongside other creations from around the world were so inspiring.

We had a great time while we were there, and those few days convinced us to book the full nine days in a couple of years’ time.
