The Castle Howard Kite Festival took place on 28th and 29th May 2018 on the North Lawn of the historic house based near Malton in Yorkshire. What a weekend!! The weather certainly did it’s best to make things difficult for all the flyers. It started on the Friday night with a fabulous thunderstorm, as soon as that finished we joined other flyers sheltering under Pauline’s tent for the evening.
First thing Saturday we managed to fly our manta for a short time before the wind picked up. The wind was strong all day and tested everyone! Sarah enjoyed watching and photographing Tom Greenfield who flew his Phoenix stack above/into the lake (unfortunately Sarah didn’t get any of the 8 stack). Saturday evening brought the rain but that didn’t stop us from sitting out and enjoying the company and a few gins!!
The rain and blustery winds continued on Sunday, a few flyers ventured out and put on a show for the public while others displayed their kites in the house. We were able to fly our Zimmermann octopus for a while once the rain stopped. It was a shame about the weather but that didn’t stop us from enjoying a fantastic setting and brilliant company all weekend.
