Organised by SmileFactor10, the St Anne’s International Kite Festival was held on the 13th, 14th and 15th September 2024 although unfortunately there was no flying on the Sunday due to the poor weather conditions. That said, the first two days more than made up for it with some saying the night flight was the best one they’d ever attended.
We arrived before Noon on the Friday to kites sitting on the ground but as the day went on the wind increased and there was plenty of ripstop on display. This culminated in the night flight where we were flying in the arena illuminated by spotlights. In the meantime many others with LED lit kites were putting on a very impressive display the other side of the pier. That said for us it was all eclipsed by the emotional tribute to Nick James of a ground display of lanterns in the shape of one of his angels. A beautiful celebration of a much loved man and kite designer.
Saturday started grey but as the wind got stronger so did the blueness of the sky. Nothing better for flying colourful kites against. A spectacular display of deltas and tails were put on by many of us which served as a super backdrop to another wonderful St Annes festival. It has certainly grown into the largest and best attended in the UK. Thanks to Craig and Sue plus the rest of the team for organising it and all the efforts they put in to make it the great success it was.
